Hello:
I've been with DirecTV for about five years. I had four CRT sets originally, so I selected standard receivers which I still have. Now that I've replaced two of the CRTs with HDTVs, I'm ready to move into the 21st Century. I'd like to upgrade to the Genie HD DVR with wired Genie Minis (I'm not interested in the wireless models).
I'd like to get an idea what is involved with the Genie installation. I understand I'll need a new HD dish.
My home was prewired for cable with an outlet in each room and the standard receivers work fine. Will the Genies work with this or will I need new cables run? The reason I ask is that when I walk around my neighborhood, I see many homes with cable strung beneath the eaves and hanging down the walls. This is not an option for me. I'm also reading on the forums how customers run new lines which has me concerned. Basically, if the Genie won't work with my current wiring, it's out, so I'd like to find out if it's even feasible before I call to inquire about upgrading.
Since there are lots of knowledge people here, could you keep to layman's terms for this dummy?
Thanks.
