if you turn in DVR's to installer, will he offer receipt for proof

One frustration I've had for years with Directv is they have this rather draconian policy about how much they threaten to charge you if you don't return HD-DVR's to the proper folks at Directv.  They talk like they might charge you $400 for a "non-returned" DVR.  For that reason I've always had them send me a "recovery pack" where they send you a box and a UPS label to get it back to the right place.

But now I'm being told, as we are considering switched to the Genie system, that I should instead just hand over my three HD-DVRs (two HR-20's and one HR-22) to the installer who comes out to put in my new system.

But I want to know if that works, meaning that the technician gives you some sort of receipt to show that you met your end of the deal by turning the DVR's over to the installer and that that constitutes a valid and proper return of the DVR's to Directv.

Should I do that???  Or should I take the more complicated path and demand that they send me three recovery packs for my 3 DVR's.  I just don't want to be stuck with unreasonable charges for these DVR's.

Thoughts???

thanks... bob.
