Ok I will start this off by saying I am FED up with directv customer service. After 3 weeks and 3 hours of phone calls, i finally got someone in the retention department to send me an H44 receiver to replace the H34 that I was having problems with.
I have a very complex whole home system that uses a lot of resources.

I was having issues with the clients dropping and saying "location not authorized" or just wouldnt work, and on top of that, everything on all clients/tvs was very slow.
I had 1 tech out to install the 4k (since they wont let you do a self install) and he asked me..."what am i here to do? and what is 4k?"
He had to call several people to walk him through it. Got it working, but the 4k content had to be saved from the main Genie and recorded to watch on the 4k TV.
Had the 2nd set of techs out yesterday, and they didnt know what they were supposed to do. They brought the right receiver (h44)
Finally got it switched out, and working. 4k content not showing up.
Asked about it, and he had to make a few phone calls, so he finally came up with that it can take 24 hours to populate...ok fine..he leaves
Got up today, and miraculously everything populated and can get all 4k content on 4k tv, everything is at LEAST 3 TIMES FASTER!!
The menus work super fast, everything boots up properly when the RVU tv's are turned on. The difference in speed is night and day! Finally everything works the way it should.
I dont understand why directv will not automatically upgrade you to the HR44 if you want it, especially if you are a long term customer, and especially for large homes with the whole home system. If I go to comcast, they give me the most updated version of the box, and if i dont like for any reason, they will swap no questions asked (the picture quality *****, which is why i prefer directv).
If you work for directv and are reading this, please take note, your customers are paying more for your services than many others, because your product is better, however, your customer service and polices, as well as training of installers is extremely lacking. I have been a loyal directv customer since 2010, and pay over 200 a month for the top tier service. The least you could do is honor simple requests such as a better box because one is not working properly.
So if you are on the fence and can get an HR44 instead of the HR34, the difference is AMAZING.
