Re: Genie going into screensaver mode?

It is the company that makes the HR34, HR44 DVR's, C31 & C41 clients for DirecTV, along with the IPTV or any box that was made by Cisco for the Pay to watch tv market.  They are now the leader in IPTV, CATV, Satellite DVR's and Set Top Boxes.

Arris owns the Motorola side of things now.  Sorry about that for not being clearer.

But yes, the Pace boxes and the software on them, do not play nicely with older HDMI tv's that are considered legacy equipment, that you can no longer get updates for the newer DRM & HDCP requirements.  Same with some of the low end Economy hdtv's.

I had the issue of a Green Screen with our 7 year old Panasonic Plasma, when connected through HDMI directly to the U-Verse IPN-7500 DVR that ATT would issue out.  You would be sitting there, and the same way that we get the screen saver, which is when the box loses communication with the tv through HDMI.  The U-Verse DVR would do the same with older TV's.

ATT blamed the manufacturer of the tv.  The TV manufacturer would blame ATT & Pace/Cisco/Microsoft that it was their problem with the hardware and the software on the DVR's.

Only when you connect the DVR through a Home Theater or powered HDMI switcher, then you lose the problem with the Green screen or screen saver in this case.

Of course the remark everyone got from the ATT techs and ATT CSR's, was to just use Component cables, and that it was not their problem, if the tv all of a sudden goes into Green Screen of Death.

I wish there was a way to actually physically see what causes these issues.  Whether it is a SMPTE clock signal issue, or a bad bit during the checksum between what the channel is sending to the box, to be read by the tv, then the tv sends back that it sees things correctly and you still have a picture.

I will say that going with other HDMI cables now, then the Monoprice, I have had less issues now with the screen saver, then I did with the Green Screen.
