Connection problems

I recently had to replace my HR22-100 HD-DVR with a HR24-500 HD-DVR.  After setting it up, I turned the DVR and my TV off.  When I turned them on again, the TV screen was completely blank.  I used the input source button on my remote  to connect to my backup rabbit ears.  The TV connected and the picture came on.  I then went and selected the HR22 and it also worked.  This is the only way I have found to electronically connect the tv and the HR22 . . . connect to the rabbit ears first.  I ran the system test which said that the dish was out of alignment.  However, my tv in the bedroom works fine. Directv support said to call them back and schedule an repairman after the snow melts.  What should I check before making that call?
