Does Genie Handle It?

For the last 10 or more years the two programs I wrote controlled a computer that recorded all prime time TV watching. All I had to enter was the program name and whether or not to also record reruns. Made no difference what time or what channel. We watched what we wanted to watch when we wanted to watch it with no commercials.

Last week the disk drives went kaput and it looks like it will take a bit of time to get everything back up. I've been a DirecTV user since near it came into existence and after the second day without the computer I ordered the Genie DVR.

So can I simply enter a program name and the Genie will record it whenever and wherever???? Another scenario that the computer handled was a recurring situation here in San Antonio. TV Guide had Hawaii 5-0 on at 8 and Blue Bloods at 9. I tune in at 8 and there are the Spursssssssss!!!!!! The shows were actually on at 2am and 3 am. Since the computer down loaded schedules on a daily basis it knew of the time shift. As an aside the computer would record an extra 15 minutes at the beginning and end because at that time in the morning it seems the people kinda fudged when things started and stopped.

So will the Genie handle this time shift. And can I easily see, select and play back recordings in any manner/sequence I want to? And is it easy to skip over commercials?? And all the while it is recording other stuff???

Thanks for any attention.
