I have the same problem. I have a Pioneer AV receiver. It works great with all other 5.1 input signals, but with my Direct TV receiver it drops out consistently. I call tech support and they just give me the run around. At one point they say that their receivers "don't really like Dolby Digital 5.1". Then they went on to point to many other possible causes other than their equipment. I really just believe they have a hardware issue and are unwilling to admit it. I really wish they would come up with a solution because I would always prefer to watch programming in DD5.1 whenever possible. Right now the only way I can watch movies in DD5.1 surround sound is to stream them via HBOGO or Netflix through my AppleTV or PlayStation. Also if you search this forum you will likely find others with the same problem, but the odd thing is that most of the discussions have been locked with many responses deleted, but oddly enough they, like yours are still unanswered by the moderator or tech support. It would seem they are just dodging the problem.
